Starting your own business and picking the right niche in no time

Good sales trainers develop and motivate sales professionals to engage actively in authentic, client-focused conversations which lead to high-quality, needs-based offerings. Unfortunately, very few sales training and development professionals are good at motivating their own sales team. The following are five basic table stakes for good sales trainers.

Empathy The best sales trainers teach empathy for all individuals involved in the sales process. Empathy allows you to see both sides of the salesperson's needs and enables you to build trust with your salespeople. Sales Trainers who don't feel like they understand the needs of their trainees rarely do a very good job as sales trainers because they have not developed and cultivated their ability to see, feel and connect on an emotional level with their trainees. While listening to what your trainees are telling you, it's also important for sales trainers to listen to what they're saying and internalize it. You can become an excellent sales trainer by cultivating an emotional connection with your salespeople.

Richardson Sales Management - Effective sales trainers are highly skilled problem solvers. Problem solving is a powerful tool that enables you to solve problems quickly and in the most efficient manner. Problem solving skills are developed through practice, but in the most effective sales training programs, problem solvers are taught to be an active part of the learning process rather than passive readers who passively absorb the information. Effective sales trainers also value the importance of active learner-focused learning.

Commitment Sales Trainers who value their potential clients and potential income potential must demonstrate a genuine commitment to doing so on a continual basis. Some people learn more from engaging with others rather than simply regurgitating information that has been provided to them. You want great sales trainers who will work hard at developing their ability to listen effectively and who will take the time to hear from their potential clients. If a sales professional does not care about the individual client, the latter may "suddenly" appear to have greater value than the former! An emotionally engaged sales professional is one who is willing to put themselves in the shoes of their potential clients.

Empathy It's very easy to develop a sense of humor when you are dealing with people on a regular basis. However, highly effective sales trainers must realize that selling isn't merely a matter of having a good sense of humor. Effective sales professionals identify with their clients on a personal level and are able to empathize with their concerns and needs.

Versatile Sales training should provide opportunities to move into new territory and implement inbound sales methodology. The ability to do so plays a key role in keeping your business viable as competition grows. For example, if your vendors are constantly releasing products that are technically superior but don't resonate with your demographic, you will likely fail. In addition, sales trainers must be flexible enough to implement different methods depending on the current marketplace. They also must be capable of adapting training methods for diverse clients because no two organizations are identical.

Self-Reflection It's amazing how sales professionals become so attuned to selling techniques that they can't recognize when their own style is outdated or no longer working. Effective leaders are always willing to evaluate how they are doing and are willing to make adjustments where necessary. They also learn to ask probing questions about why things aren't working so that they can develop new strategies. Sales training helps sales professionals to ask the right questions in order to fine tune their selling techniques.

Sales trainers are expected to identify their target audience, develop effective techniques for engaging with potential clients and selling to them, and learn how to listen effectively to what their intended audience is saying. When these skills are in place, salespeople have greater success and sales results begin to improve. Sales professionals also see a return on investment and salespeople who embrace change quickly find new ways to grow their sales. Sales training is necessary for today's marketplace and today's businesses.
